Pranati Panda - Artists - Aicon Contemporary

Pranati Panda (b.1974, Bhubaneshwar, India) is an artist whose work delves deeply into self-reflection. She often places herself at the center of a personal exploration, using abstraction and storytelling to examine her own philosophies on life. Her process is highly meditative, with her signature threadwork reflecting her commitment to the meaning found in labor and the pursuit of open-ended questions. Her works in mix media and watercolour distort the scale of the pictorial elements to provoke grief and menace. She uses different motifs leading to one another creating an association within themselves. Ultimately, Pranati works out a contrast between the surface imposed and the support as natural, and rests the middle space as the object of desire.

Panda completed her BFA at B.K. College of Arts and Crafts, followed by an MFA from the Delhi College of Art. Her talent was recognized early on, earning her the Orissa State Akademi Award in 1993. Her first solo show titled Speaking Threads was held at Vadehra Art Gallery, New Delhi in 2019. She has also participated in several exhibitions, including Latitude 28, New Delhi (2021); Gallery Art Positive, New Delhi (2021, 2016); Ragini Art Gallery, New Delhi (2018); Religare Art, New Delhi (2012); Exhibit 320, New Delhi (2010); Tangerine Art Space, Bangalore (2008); Shrine Gallery and Empire Art, Singapore (2008); Project 88, Mumbai (2007); and Grosvenor Vadehra, London (2007), among others.

Panda's forthcoming solo exhibition, 'Weaving What We Carry,' opens September 3rd 2025 at Aicon Contemporary, New York.
